Hullo everyone... I have a question for the networking gurus here. At work they have the ports for instant messenger blocked (in fact, they have most ports closed besides the common ones like web and ftp). I actually need IM to get in touch with people that, believe it or not, don't have cell phones but have easy access to computers. Is there a way to make IM work through a different port? I don't have access to the routers, only my G5 running Panther. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
Mike

You can configure AIM to connect through port 80 which is usually opened for web browsing. (I did it at work on a PC, not sure if the Mac version can do this too).

I would think hard about doing that though, because if you get busted circumventing company policy while using their network.. is it really worth an HR action or even losing your job over? Legitimate purposes or not, they obviously have a rule in place regarding IM..

pat, thanks for the advice. I wasn't sure if I could use port 80 or not, but you're right it works!
