I have an iPad and an iPhone 4 and I'd like to be able to send/receive and keep the same threaded texts on both devices. The most important thing is that it use the same phone number I have on my iPhone so I don't have to give out a new number to everyone.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I'd gladly be proven wrong, but I think that's a no go.
I don't think there's a technical barrier, it's more the carriers shrieking bloody murder if you let someone do an end run around messaging fees.

Which is bizarre, as SMS don't actually cost the carrier anything - they cost literally nothing, as they piggy-back on the status verification protocol that's transmitted all the time, anyway.
The only cost involved is passing them on to other networks.
Money for Nothing…

Well, I assume MMS costs them something, but you get charged the same for each.

MMS are much more expensive here (twice the charge when not bundled).

The first problem of texting on/too the iPad is... its not phone capable. They're Apps that will allow texting (free) which i use, but they assign you there own phone number which allows texting within the App. There's also a (free) VOIP phone service App, but it doesn't allow texting, just phone calls again. only within the App.
If someone develops a App that forwards your cell phone texts or a App that works between your cell phone and iPad, then... i think it might be possible.
They need to develop a App that will allow your Cell Phone Text Messages be forward and appear on your iPad within a Application. If someone has a solution let us know,

Europe could learn from our socialistic ways.
The revolution will be texted.
