Samsung and
AT&T have launched an exchange program for damaged
Samsung Galaxy S4 Active smartphones. The program was rumored earlier today, but since initial report both companies have confirmed the program and have commenced replacing users' water-damaged devices with new or refurbished units, depending on stock received at the exchanging store.
Samsung's official statement on the matter says that "Samsung designed and tested the Galaxy S 4 Active to adhere to IP67 standards for water resistance (1 meter for 30 minutes). If your Galaxy S 4 Active has been damaged due to water exposure, bring it back to an AT&T retail store as soon as possible for a one-time exchange for another Galaxy S 4 Active."
Electronista confirmed with a local AT&T corporate-owned store that the program was in effect, but was going to be limited to devices received at the store shipped from Samsung. Shops would not be exchanging damaged phones for store stock, but had a separate pool of devices to draw from.
Additionally, we were told that the program was only authorized at this time through October 31, or whenever replacement stock was depleted. The devices are being exchanged despite the warranty on the device having no provision for water, dust, or 'neglect' damage.
