I recent purchased a DVI to HDMI cable. It works great, I've connected my 17inch MacBook Pro to my 40inch Sony LCD TV. What I'm wondering is, what are the optimal settings for:

1) Viewing non HD movies (DVDs)
2) Viewing HD movies
3) Playing video games

In the Display Settings of system preferences, I'm offered either
1600x900
-or-
1920x1080 (interlaced)

The TV is supposedly 1080p, which is why I'm a little confused, I guess. Any insight is appreciated.

What's the TV model?

You may have to use one of the hacks to get the best output.
