Alright, now I'm curious - the presence/absence of drugs (*) has what impact on that statement?

(* - what drugs are we talking here anyway? coffee? cigarettes? pot? nutmeg? superglue? crack?)

That's a generalization that I doubt you could prove.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

Ok. It may only apply to some industries.

Q: Are contractors or grantees performing work in Federal facilities required to have Drug-Free Workplace programs?
A:Yes.

http://www.dol.gov/elaws/asp/drugfree/screenfq.htm
http://www.dol.gov/elaws/asp/drugfree/howto.htm

The effect is the ousting of many contractors, benefiting those who comply and participate.

Drug tests are a joke, you fail just for eating poppy seeds, if you are exposed to some one smoking pot, and even if you didn't get enough second hand smoke in you it shows in your system for a few days. Also some over the counter and other meds cause positives too. I am totally opposed to drug tests and I am 100% drug free.

I have to doubt the incidence of false positives can be that high.

Hard to know, most ppl that get fired for a positive are never told that it was because of a drug test.

false positives are indeed high for the 1st rung 'piss' test. A good lab will make further tests to determine for sure if drugs are present. A bad lab will not and you will be fired. It's scary placing your career in the hands of people who may not know what they are doing.

Small amounts don't work against someone. And I know alot of work places that turn their head when it comes to pot.

They are looking for the crack-heads, heroin junkies meth users etc.

They are the ones that usually have problems at work. Esp when they run out of drugs.

Can't go to work when you are in withdrawal.

Plus, in those above, the likelihood that someone would steal money to get those is also higher.

Now adays they can tell EXACTLY what opiate you have in your system.

Poppies, opium, heroin, etc.
