My TiBook 1GHz has had one part fail after another -- CD-RW, hard drive, CD-RW again. Now it's the fan. The one on the right (the secondary one I think). When it kicks in, it sounds like a meat grinder. It's horrifyingly loud and comes of way too often, even though I use the machine on a flat surface.

Is it possible to buy another fan and install it? There's no way I'm ponying up the 300 bucks or whatever Apple wants to replace it, but I can't stand this stupid noise it's making. Anyone know where I can find instructions? I replaced the optical drive (second time around) and hard drive no problem, so I'm fairly competent doing basic hardware repairs.

Have you thought about buying it an iBreeze or something similar instead?

Hmm, the fan suggested for replacement is $45 now. That hurts for a part that probably costs a buck in real life.

Is the fan that's mentioned above more quiet than both originals? I'm meen, is it worth changing both of them?

Just for info...I have used an iBreeze with my Ti 1GHz for most of this year and it's proven to be great. Excellent construction, unobtrusive design and the two built-in fans keep my Ti nice and cool at all times.
