listed on Versiontracker, although nothing shows up on my machine. The description says it's for intel only, but the longer description suggests it works on older macs.

The questions:

1. Does this fix that "popping" sound from 10.4.10?

2. Does this fix the low-level hissing/static reported on new SR MBPs?

I await your responses (since I'm gonna buy an MBP verys soon)...

From versiontracker:

Product Description:
AudioTuneUp 2.0 fixes the following audio problems: * On PowerMac G3 and PowerMac 4400 models attempting to record from the external microphone using QuickTime does not work. * On the PowerBook 3400c, PowerBook 2400c, and PowerBook G3 models sound sometimes does not play when running off of battery. * On the PowerMacintosh 5400, PowerMacintosh 5500, Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh, PowerBook 2400c, PowerBook 3400c, and PowerBook G3 feedback occurs when attempting to use some applications to record audio from the internal microphone.
Product Requirements:

* Mac OS 8.1 and any of the following: PowerMac G3, PowerMac 4400, PowerMacintosh 5400, PowerMacintosh 5500, Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh, PowerBook 2400c, PowerBook 3400c, and PowerBook G3. The exception is that a PowerMac G3 will need AudioTuneUp 2.0 to make recordings with QuickTime even under Mac OS 8.0.

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

* Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
I'm a bit confused how it works with the powerpc macs, requires system 8.1+, but is designed for Intels w/10.4...

AudioTuneUp 2.0 is NOT the same thing as Audio Update 2007-001.

It's in Software Update now:

This update resolves an audio issue and is recommended for all users running 10.4.10 on Intel-based Macs.

Weird. Your'e right-- versiontracker had linked the new audio update to the old audiotuneup... I should noticed that...

Anyway, the question remains-- does it fix the problem people were having with the new MBPs?

I think it solved the problem! 10 minutes out, no popping! I used to get about one a minute...

That link is dead, why would Apple post a dead link?

I'm going to install the update now, see if it resolves the popping...

Fixed the popping, airport was wonky at first restart, turning it off and back on appears to have fixed that.
