Dear Apple,

please do not rename the web browser application Safari to Safari RSS and please do not add an RSS symbol to the Safari application icon (like you did with the silly camera symbol in iChat).

i'm being sarcastic there, for the stupid people who didn't pick up on it.

Dear Developer,

Please petition the sky not to turn green. Not only is it necessary for you to do this, but your petition will also ensure that the sky does not turn green!

Love,
Moose

P.S. Look at the goddamned video of "Safari RSS" and tell me where the App name or icon has changed.

Despite the demo page, the actual name of the Safari app is not changing. It will not be called "Safari RSS"; no worries on that score.

For that matter, there is no indication that Apple will be adding an RSS symbol to the app icon. It is adding an RSS symbol (though not the standard one, which is orange) to the URL field, but this is by no means the same thing.

We must have missed the boat Developer is on, I'm failing to see any indication of Safari becoming Safari RSS.

If it it, CHANGE THE ICON!

That's simple. Or DON'T USE SAFARI IN TIGER!

Or DON'T BUY TIGER!

Really, this is a silly thread. At first, I was hoping this was a petition to ask Apple to release its RSS feature in the next version of Safari and not in 2.0 next year.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

How would you know? They added a camera symbol to iChat as well. Everywhere on Apple's website they call it "Safari RSS" not "Safari" with RSS. Jobs called it like that all the time during the presentation.

When that's released in Tiger with the disfigured icon it's too late. That's why this petition now is so important.

The first public build of iChat AV had the camera icon. The camera didn't show up later. The icon is the icon.

Yes. Because Safari will work very differently with a different icon!

Can we get this thread locked, please?

oooh, yes! it's important! let's focus on the really important issues here! f*ck getting a faster Finder, just as long as they don't call their browser Safari RSS!

dude, wake up.

Ahem

http://weblogs.mozillazine.org/hyatt/
I haven't had a chance to talk about this, but I thought I'd again start by briefly clearing up a point of confusion. Safari RSS is not the name of the entire Safari browser on Tiger. It is the name of the RSS/Atom feature in Safari itself. If you pull down the About information in Safari on Tiger, you'll see that the version is 2.0.

Out of honest curiosity, what would have been wrong with the name change anyway?

FWIW:

In the Tiger DP the icon is the same. Safari is still called Safari. It only displays the (fairly discrete) 'RSS' in the URL bar when one accesses an RSS feed.

Although you could copy the icon and paste it on the new safari I can see the annoyance
with RSS in front. To a new user it would be awkward and they might wonder what RSS meant until they used the new Safari.
I would say your petition would make sense if it was in the customization forum because mac users find the smallest problems. Don't get me wrong, I like GUI people but some things shouldn't be petitioned for.

The camera in iChat AV is an indicator for what it does like TextEdit or iCal. Just like the green note in iTunes shows we are using version 4. Under your plan there could be no changes in icons. This goes back to the whole "Mac OS X is like candy" argument.

Ok, a couple of things here. 1) This is a software thread and it goes in the Software forum. 2) The question has been settled as per a previous post. 3) It's degenerating into a bitch fest. 4) The lock.
