Thought lots of you might like to know that there is a program to indefinately reset the region-change counter for the Hitachi DVD drive (GD-7000/7500) which is found in the newer G4s.

It is not a hacked RPC-1 firmware flash such as is available for some drives, the drive remains RPC-2. It is a program to change the region-change counter back to 4, which gives you an unlimited number of region changes.

Surf over to http://www.firmware.com.bi/ to get it.

Enjoy!

[Note to moderators.. this does not in any way assist with piracy of DVDs, it is restoring the choice of international free trade to consumers]

"international free trade"? balls.
"the right for companies to screw us all over, as and when they see fit"
how long before the split the music industry into regions?
yeah we could get our cd players chipped, but then we lose our warranties and when the machine breaks we (the dumbasses that we are) go and buy a NEW machine, lining the pockets of fat cats further.

does this piss anyone else off?

Yes. Me!

Hehe.

Honestly, DVD region coding is just *EVIL*. The problems of PAL vs NTSC was just accidental because of how television developed, but to delibrately restrict where customers buy discs/players from is an unspeakable evil.

The only good use of region encoding is DVD Region-7. Region 7 is reserved for use in international special environments, aka, aircraft. Your airline could rent/lend you a DVD player/disc, but if you stole either, it would not work with any other player/disc available on the open market. Note even most "multi-region" DVD players won't play region 7 discs, since there's no reason anyone should have them
