Inspired by this thread.

I have a secure WAP encrypted with WPA-PSK but in the surrounding houses, there are two other WAPs that are unsecured that I can conceivably connect to. How many are in your area?

Humor and irony, as well as following other threads in the Lounge aren't your strength, right ?

Obviously reading comprehension isn't yours. And it's really not necessary to sign your posts, we know who posted it.

Good observations. You are smarter than a lot of the forum members here.

I can see my own and my neighbor's-and both are properly protected from "accidental" use. My son is looking at a "public service" for our neighborhood; taking his laptop and NetStumbler around and notifying neighbors when their wireless networks aren't secure enough to prevent bad things from happening. Of course he hopes to get tips and maybe even paid to help them configure these networks, but at least he's thinking.

Railroader, I am not familiar with your trademarked acronym. In before what?

In Before Christ Returns. Someone else coined it and gave me/us permission to use it. I thought this thread might get lock because it's basically the same as another current thread.

I see; makes lots of sense. I don't see it as the same; it's more focused on one aspect that was barely touched before the other thread turned into namecalling and lunacy.

You get that it's supposed to sound stupid, right? He's making fun of certain other people's posts.

Not hardly..... I fixed that.

Back on topic, how many folks here use wireless networks outside their homes? I'm thinking of business, coffee shops, school, etc. I'm also wondering about what kinds of access controls you've all run into. My college has a pretty good wireless network (that requires a login), and when I finish here this spring, the Health Science Center has a good one too-that's probably even more secure.

I use a wireless network at my full-time job. The school I work at part-time has one, but I'm off in the boondocks of campus, so I have to use ethernet there.

( It's actually possible to get banned after your first post when all you say is "I'll be back" ? :outofloop: )

Anyway, I was amazed in a L.A. Westin Bonaventure a couple years ago to see a long scroll of wifi links... hotel rooms, businesses across the street on floors 10-20... not to mention the periodic computer network available.

Someone with some hacking skills (and no ethics) could probably have a field day.

Yep. When you are evading a ban it is. That sort of behavior is not acceptable.
