Arrggh! I want to scream. Freakin' idiots.

OK, short story: I went ahead and registered a website domain earlier in the week with godaddy.com (first mistake).

A couple of days later, I get emails saying the domain was being pulled. WTF?

I called the company (international long-distance, mind you) and was told it had been pulled because of fraud!

WTF?!

I was told that it was being considered fraud because they couldn't get ahold of me on the telephone. When I said it was because I was out of the US right now, they would have to call internationally.

I was told they couldn't do that and they would forward my issue to the proper department and I'd hear something back via email soon and if I didn't, I could call back during business hours (which happen to be 14 hours different than my current time zone).

So, a few days and no email, nothing. Just dead in the water and this after I set everything up for the new site and informed people and everything.

So, I call and wait 20 minutes before someone answers (again, international long-distance). This twit has no clue and tells me the only way to solve the problem is by email.

I ask what department is handling the matter.
She says she doesn't know the name of the department.
I ask her how she can forward my problem to them if she doesn't know the name.
She says they can get email.
I ask why can't I call.
She says they can't take calls.
I ask how they can help when they are unnamed and have no telephones.
She says she doesn't know.
I ask her what does she know.
She says she knows they can handle the matter via email.
I ask her how long it'll be before I hear an answer this time.
She says she doesn't know.

I call back and try a different support line.

This guy at least tries to be helpful. He says I should email again since they haven't responded the first time but there's idea when they respond. He adds that they should get to it on Friday *hopefully*. I ask how that helps me since I'm not staying up all night waiting for an email that may or may not come.

Seriously, are all of these companies seriously effed up? Or is it just gofreaking daddy?

Are there any reliable ones out there? I'm seriously thinking of telling them where they can stick their domain.

Why not just deal with netsol? Never had a problem with them. Everytime, all the time, it just works.

I quit dealing with netsol when Verisign started that Sitefinder or Netfinder crap (whatever it was called). I'm guessing they've spun netsol back into their own entity now, but too little too late, since I moved all my domains to godaddy.

I used to love godaddy. Then, somehow, someone snuck into the place and poured a ton of suxxor all over.

First time I had a problem with them was when I couldn't get one of my php scripts working because they disabled some functions for "security reasons". Second time I couldn't get MoveableType working, nor could other godaddy customers.

What's good about them is that they have a deal with the company that hides your personal info from the rest of the freakin' planet (someone at ICANN has to do something about that).

So I just use them for registration and nothing else. There are better server companies out there.

I have dotmac paid for though next year (I won a couple of memberships at a lucky draw) so I basically wanted something, for now, just as a redirect to the dotmac stuff.

I've been trying to get my hosting company, dreamhost, to get that feature. Unfortuantely, they have no plans to do that yet. It'd be nice if all the freaks that visit my sites didn't know I was a freak, too

http://www.gkg.net/

PLEASE check them out. They're the absolute BEST registrar anywhere.

GKG has Private Domain Registration as well. If you choose that option, GKG is set up as the intermediary and registration information is kept private. You have to call GKG, they contact you via email or phone, and you give permission to hand out your information to the person(s) requesting.

They also have a complete suite of online tools for domain management, including free, online, no-hassle, DNS registration.

Very easy to use online tools for DNS management as well as 120, 60, 30, 10 day, and 24 hour notification of domain expiration (depending on how long you originally registered your domain for.)

Most registration is around $9 a domain, it gets cheaper if you do multiple. Currently they're having a sale on .net, org, .us, .name, and others at only $7 a domain.

They also have free domain parking and cheap forwarding and email.

Their customer service is aboslutely the BEST. Very quick emails, no waiting calls (at least, I've never had to wait), very friendly and very fast to fix any problems.

http://www.lunarpages.com/

I just crossed a year and have had no problems. A friend of mine has been running his brother's website 2-3 years now with the same company and never a problem.

Just my 2 cents.

DirecNIC.com is my personal Fav. Been with them for over 4 years. No extra cost for redirection. I pay $15 to register my site idrivex.com and then tell it to redirect to homepage.mac.com/idrivex and keep idrivex.com in the address bar and I've never ever had to talk to someone at Customer Service.

It's typing 130 WPM with 1 error on Windows without a god damn spell checker.
