Hi all, does anyone know of a good (and preferably free) alternative to virtual PC?

Cheers

Virtual PC is the best PC emulator around. A free alternative is dosbox:

http://dosbox.sourceforge.net

but it reallly only does dos. You can try bochs, which supports Win95 and NT4:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...rce/bochs.html

The Intel switch should offer much better choices and performance in this area.

I am not sure, there is a less expensive emulator called Guest PC, I have seen ads for it on this forum.

What do intend to do with it? I use VPC 7.0.2 on a dual 1.8 G5 with 2 gigs of RAM, and it's fine for Excel, but I wouldn't push it past that.

OK cool, I intend to mostly use publisher on it, as I have office:mac but obviously it doesnt come with publisher. The only other thing I would use it for would be msn messenger, as I cant stand te mac version of it

ugh publisher - i tell my clients to get it to me some other way. i am not the only one, print shops hate publisher. they should call it punisher.

My alternative names for MS products.

Windows = Winblows/Windoze etc.
Outlook = Lookout
Access = Crapcess
FrontPage = FrontRage
Internet Explorer = Internet Exploder (sadly this is true)
Word = Turd
WMF (windows media format) = WTF
SQL Server = Squeal (Like a Pig) Server
IIS = I IS scared, very scared

I can't think of a good one for powerpoint and I actually like excel. any other good ones out there? my all time favorite is when someone upped Norton Utilities to a newsgroup as Snorton Futilities.

Have you tried NeoOffice? I haven't seen anything on a spreadsheet that won't come through well in NeoOffice from Excel. I have not tried any spreadsheets with macros built in though, not sure if that is what you are referring to.
