I have a Powerbook with a super drive which I can burn dvd's with using IDVD. I also purchased today an Imac with a combo drive and have hooked an external dvd burner to it. Does anyone know how I can get Idvd to recognize that burner? Thank you very much.

what version of iDVD are you running?

iDVD 4 is suppose to run on computers without DVD burners (don't know about burning) and iDVD 5 I think can even use external burners because the mpeg encoder was switched to cpu based instead of superdrive based.

iDVD 3 and older I believe cannot run without a superdrive. if you have iDVD 4 there might be a hack out or something.

Thanks. It says that because IDVD5 can export to disk image that the patchburn is not needed. It means to me that you need Toast or something like it to burn the disk image. Thanks!!!

Hi,
I just finished installing iLife6 (about 46 min) and keep getting hung up on iDVD. I think it can't find some old tunes or photos from past projects. It won't allow me to cancel the search without freezing. Any ideas?
