My Blacbook makes a mechanical-like sound when starting up / waking...anyone else? I don't recall my PB making this sort of sound....

It is the slot-loading optical drive running through some sort of test cycle. Every apple portable with a slot-loading drive makes that noise, at least in my experience,

/My iBook g4 made that noise
/It sounded like giants ripping trees out of the ground
/I still loved my iBook
