I thought the same thing. I'm guessing in a full sentence it might be easier to figure out one word from another by the words around it.

Correct.

To explain: Correct spelling is no longer a required feature in exams and tests. The government is bent on raising exam pass rates year on year (i.e. we currently have a 95% pass rate - to hell with the Bell Curve).

As a result, anything which justifies the lowering of standards so that pass rates can be raised is a good thing.

Of course, this now means that us employers don't know which prospective employees are capable and which aren't, so we now tend to favour the pretty ones in short skirts.

Superchic[k]en,

Unfortunately you won't be getting this card:

You fall in the category of incorrect spelling instead of wrong order letters.

If any of you were in #macnn yesterday, sorry. :/ I was spelling like I'd had too much to drink.
My conversation looked like the first post, but didn't make as much sense.

That's still no excuse for not learning how to spell and write correctly. And that goes doubly so for the current generation of people who are growing up spending too much time on their computers.

you'll do anything to excuse your bad grammar and spelling eh adam?...doesn't cut with me...if someone continually misspells words it shows an unwillingness to learn from mistakes...

before someone busts me for my grammar...by bad grammar i mean transposing words etc....not caps, periods and so on...when posting anything i tend to be very informal and type the way a person may converse auditorially...

True I agree. I think Automatic Spell Checker contribute to the laziness of most people

I think more like most people don't bother to use spell-check in the first place. I would think that most people who actually use spell-check would eventually notice that a particular word is always underlined and that the correct spelling would slowly seep into their brain.

Wow, you jumped over the conclusion

This thread is meant to be interesting, not to defend my weak grammar and spelling

Way to start a personal attack on me again

There's two different ways to spellcheck; words spelled incorrectly are underlined, and words spelled incorrectly are automatically corrected. The former is good; it provides the user a chance to see the misspelling, see the correct spelling, and know better for next time. The latter is bad; it doesn't give the user any indication that an error was made, and the user continues to spell incorrectly.

Hey Adam, do you have a link for this or did you find out from some non-internet source?

You did two tests there. One for messing up the order without ending it on the same letter, and one for leaving letters out. Both are harder to read than leaving the first and last letters correct and reordering the rest.

I am not sure if you meant it to be like this, but that read like a LOT of typos, not bad spelling.

What I hate is when someone constantly uses letters instead of words, and say it's so they can type faster.

u = you
y = why
o = oh (I hate this one, how hard is it to his one extra key?)
plz = please
cos = because

I don't mind as much when it's abbreviating several words, like wtf, or btw.

I ignore people if they speak to me like that via ICQ, AIM, IRC, SMS, or whatever.

Even worse, though.

One guy I know (total loser) spells the word "can't" like this: carnt.

Hey Jansar, did you see the episode where Xena and Gabrielle were recreated in the future in a lab and that lesbian check kept asking them to look at her "Gabby Tapes?"

It was like 10 minutes of Xena and Gabrielle kissing, hugging, and staring at each other.
