To bring us back on topic, here is my desk at work:

Just a couple of homebrew boxes and one B&W G3 all hooked up with a Belkin KVM. I've got a nicer setup at home, but it's not nearly as clean as that!

Just out of curiosity, would people be interested in a site dedicated to pics like these? I know I really like seeing what other people have done with their workstations. Gives me something to drool over/do while I'm bored at work. hehe

I don't get it. What is with people placing their towers on their desktops? I know they look good and everything, but it wastes a whole $hitload of space. Why not put it under your desk where it will make for less clutter and noise?

The only reason I can think of having it on the desktop is because it makes the media-bays easier to access, but come on, how often do we have to access the front of our Powermacs? Are you burninating a whole wackload of CDRs? Still using floppies to backup? If so you will want to see this Floppy Disk RAID.

This is my G4 in the lab I work in. I am pretty sure it is a 450Mhz. This one has a 3rd party serial port installed where the modem used to be... Stealth Serial is what I beleive it is called. Anyways, I use it to link up my Newton 2100...

as for why my g4 is on my desk...well I make cd backups daily as i am a photographer and cd's are my new negatives. It is much easier than bending over all the time to have it right next to me...oh and yea I love those Champaign speakers...got them on sale

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 for loudness, great quality for music, and powerful bass. They are around $150, check www.pricegrabber.com

Or, the Monsoon PlanarMedia 14's, which rival and even some people agree are better then the above set, but they are the same price ($150). But you can usually find them for $125. They have a larger sub (8"), they are flat speakers (don't let that discourage you) and are perfect for music and games.

Right now Im considering the Monsoon PM14s and the HK Soundsticks. Im leaning a bit towards the monsoons because they dont use USB, so I would be able to connect them to a soundcard like the revolution to get optimal sound.

I have to add my recommendation to the SoundSticks. I paid �140 for them (over $200) but in my opionion it was well worth it. Great quality sound, and everyone who notices them comments on their great design.

Well I just picked up the Monsoon PlanarMedia 14's tonight for $149.95. All I can say is WOW! I'll try to make a quick review later after they have been broken-in.

I've got a 2 year old that likes to push buttons and fit strange objects into slots and holes. My PowerMac goes on the top of the desk! How's that for a reason?

Ditto. Also, I'm always plugging and unplugging things into the back. I hate having to crawl under my desk for that.

If so, that's awesome...

I am thinking it might be a good waste of time to turn my old LC into a terminal to login to my tower of power when an application gets stuck in the foreground, and I can't kill it. (I use the iMac in the other room for this, but wouldn't it be cool to bring the LC back to life??) Ya, ya.. I know, I could use that little program with ctrl-alt-del key combo to kill the front most app, but where is the coolness (and geekiness) in that?

It toggles between password necessary to stop the screensaver and no password necessary. I think you can get it from the keychain app.

Man, if the Cube returned in earnest (preferably with a PPC 970 chip) I would be incredibly tempted to get one. As it stands, I'm not too eager to get one and promptly have to replace half the components (new video card, CPU, hard disk, and so on) just to get a modern machine. If I got the Cube or the replacement components for free, however...
