Jaguar is *MUCH* slower on my 500Mhz iBook. For those who did not try yet, turn magnification on in the Dock and compare 10.1 with Jaguar : 10.1 is 1000 times smoother/faster.

My friend said 10.2 ran much better then 10.1 on his 500 pismo, but it has a faster bus. I hope that when 10.2 comes out it will run better then 10.1. IMHO 10.1 runs well on my 500.

I haven't noticed much about speed differences when I've been using Jaguar. I'm not supposed to talk about specifics according to the NDA, but it is pretty crashy right now. I play with Jaguar for a couple of hours here and there, but then the "weird stuff" starts going on and I switch back to the 10.1 partition.

I have an iPod on order, so when it shows up I will put Jaguar on there and I'll be more inclined to seriously mess around.

A lot of guys at WWDC had jaguar on their iPods the day after we got it handed to us.

I'm now able to run at millions of colors and it kicks my Cube 450's butt (though that system runs at 1600x1200 resolution)! Things are REALLY smooth!

I installed it on an external FW drive so I'll hook that baby up to a few computers tomorrow just to see how well 10.2 (or maybe 10.5?!) runs on various flavors of Macs.

With my ADC membership, I've got one Hardware Discount that expires in June. Before today, I was set to get the fastest Mac PowerBook I could, but now, even my current hardware may be good enough!

Last tidbits: Flash files are incredibly fast now. I can run Netscape 7PR1 very comfortably, whereas in 10.1 it got to be too much of a drag. Overall, I'd say Jaguar will bring us to 90% of the performance we had in OS 9 for some things, and 120% for many others! I'm so happy!

(whoops, there goes not revealing too much)

Cool!

Althought experiences with trying jag builts seems to vary a bit.. But then again not all testers are ADC members either..

Saying "fast enough" is really saying "fast enough for me" so take what I say with a grain of salt...YMMV.

For some things like scrolling through PDFs, it's pretty close to OS 9 performance. For other things, like Flash files in a web browser, wow, much faster than anything under OS 9. Photoshop 7 GUI performance is also improved (P7 on OS X was already pretty good, much better than Illustrator performance). And some OS X things like live resizing of Finder windows are still the same. Overall, people should be pleased with this update, Quartz Extreme or not.
