I really want to get a 256meg memory module for my new iBook.

Has anyone bought a 256meg memory module for their new iBook yet? Successful installation?

I read of Voch's problem with his and I wondered if that was just an isolated case of a bad module or if others are having like problems.

Thanks for any info,

Karen

I installed 256 ram today. It's not as easy as it should be but not impossible. I had to press harder than I thought I should. The worst part of it was getting the keyboard back on . I've got a pismo and that was not a hard thing with it. With the ibook, i put the keyboard in a little wrong and I couldn't get it up for the life of me. I was panicked but then it worked out. Nothing major to watch out for. Good luck.

I got it from Other world computing. I think their website is www.macsales.com . I've heard nothing but good things about them and they had one of the better deals out there. I got it for $90 including second day shipping. Actually, it was more like next day for me because I ordered late tuesday night and it was here on thursday. Only a couple hours after I got my computer That's good timing.

Torifile,

My experiences exactly chronicle yours. I purchased a 256MB so-dimm from Other World Computing for $90, and I installed it this afternoon. Its a cinch...just make sure you are careful when you put the keyboard back in. I too did it incorrectly the first time, and it took me about 30 minutes, 2 screwdrivers, and a good dose of stress before I was able to get it back up. There's no special trick...just go slow and steady and you'll be fine.

Torifile and Macamon,

Which module did you purchase?

Was it the TPW256LF?

I ordered the same module from OWC and got a bad module. It's good to hear that is was likely a fluke. I get my new module from OWC today if I can track down the Airborne delivery truck...

I received my 256MB RAM module (OWC TPW256LF) from OWC and immediately put it in the iBook and it now WORKS! Yay! I guess I had a fluke bad module.

OWC rocks. Very good turnaround time on this (they Airborne Express overnighted me a new module). Buy from OWC. They are good. I take back my previous rant.

Ram install question here:

Any idea where I can pick up a #0 Phillips head screwdriver? Home Depot, etc.? I got an eyeglass repair kit but it didn't have the very small screwdriver I needed. Got all the way to the ram shield and then couldn't find a small enough screwdriver. Have the 256 mb ram here (purchased from Memory to Go for $70 + shipping) just aching to be installed in my new iBook2-DVD.

Thanks for info,
Ken

2.5 Ghz MacBook Pro, 2GB Ram, 250 GB HD...major upgrade replacement for my recently sold iBook.

1.25 Ghz iMac, 17", 768 MB Ram, 160GB HD, SuperDrive, Airport Extreme..still a great desktop machine!

I always relied on Sears for my Torx screwdrivers for opening my Duo. Try them. I was lucky enough to have a jeweler's screwdriver set to get to the RAM slot on my new iBook.

Ken,
I just picked up a 6 piece precision scredriver set at Sears for $2.99.
It has the #0 Phillips, and a 1.4mm that you'll use in the keyboard lock slot.

Thanks for the input...I'll run down to Sears tomorrow and pick up the screwdrivers that were recommended.

Thanks,
Ken
