it finally came today, 11 days after ordering, just getting use to it and getting all my settings how i want them.

first impressions are screen is very nice and sharp, keyboards taking a bit og getting use to, having issues with caps lock and A getting mashed together, and the keyboard is a lot louder than i expected, espesh the space bar! i much prefer my aluminum keyboard on my imac.

Have to say i love the packaging, very smart, however not impressed in apples quote of these laptops been green considering my laptops gone half way around the world before getting to me, yes it may contain no mercury ect, but my brand new laptop had more millage on it than most cars! From Japan to USA (california) to Ireland to The UK

But is it snappy™?

Seriously, why would it go the long way round the world (across the Pacific) instead of across Asia and continental Europe. That's odd. Maybe Apple doesn't have any shipping routes going West from Japan.

Regardless of how it got to you, have fun with it.

Send it back - there's obviously something wrong with the shift key.

Heck, I've had parcels sourced 30 miles away do that. Just let UPS around it.

well from chatting to my local franchised apple store, i believe they are all shipped from the US, so the Jap-US part of the journey is done prior to ordering, and then the upgrades applied in cali'. i just cant see that methord of shipping from a warehouse in the US been the most economical and ecofriendly way of shipping units, either ship from jap or form a holding in the UK from japan would have seemed more sensible, and would speed up chipping times.

p.s. is the "snappy" thing a US thing or am i missing something lol

No. It's a meme from back in the early days of OS X when every point (10.x) and sub-point (10.x.x) update was hoped to make your Mac feel quicker. For a long time in the early history of OS X the new gee-whiz features of the new OS seemed meh when considered in light of the lack of perceived speed increase promised by the new OS. (While things looked pretty and lickable the computers didn't fly like users wanted/expected/demanded.) Many will argue as to when things became "snappy" but I will say it was with Jaguar (OS X 10.2).

Odd. All my custom order Macs are put together in mainland Europe.

I'm not disputing it. Might be how they do things for the new MBP.
My previous gen MBP almost certainly came from the continent, as did the MP (both ordered via the online store in Ireland). France rings a bell, although Apple's AppleCare repair facility seems to be in Holland.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

They're still taking out the beta code.
