The Digital Video and Audio forum is pretty much dead. I'm guessing this will be the only place I'll find an answer so here goes (Hopefully it doesn't get moved):

I've heard a few reports about the DCR-HC96 not working with Intel Mac's but working fine with PPC. Though, to me, that makes no sense. Seeing as how it uses the built-in Mac drivers and comes with none supplied in the package.

I'm seriously considering buying this camera. Right now I can get it for cost, which is close to $300 savings. But if I can't get my iMac to recognize it then there's no sense buying it.

I had the opportunity to borrow it for a night to see if I liked it before I buy it. It's an amazing camera. But unfortunately Apple apps won't capture video via USB and the camera didn't come with a firewire cable (It supports it though: iLink, 4-pin to 6-pin cable).

I'm just curious to know if anybody here has the DCR-HC96 or a similar Sony camcorder (such as the DCR-HC26, DCR-HC46, etc) and an Intel Mac. I'd really like to know how well I'll fare in capturing my video.

I should probably mention that connection to a computer is a must. On-camera editing won't do for me. I have Final Cut Studio, and right now I just need a good camera for home (that'll still work in Final Cut). Any help would be great
