how do i (aaargh!) do this?
i need to convert audio files (aif, wav, or mp3) to wma's...
is there a good app for this? freeware, or...?
thanx peeps!
(am on a macbook, 10.6.3...)

I use Max but there are other good (free) programs out there like XLD, Switch, and xAct just to name a few.

You're on a Mac forum, and wma is a dead format. So it's obligatory to ask why you want to do this?

i have to prep some files for (forgive me!) microsoft, and they want them in their own format.

found a solution (max does NOT seem to convert to wma).
audacity (with ffmpeg downloaded into it's library) seems to work.
next project: mp3s to 8-track tapes!

Oops...knew those programs convert just about everything...didn't think to check the formats they each support. Glad you got something to work.

You could try using QuickTime with Flip4Mac.
