Went to do change all for an app, and no list view offered? Only cumbersome icon view? And can't find Excel in there.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Something in the Finder?

thanks S, when I click change all I get this:

Are you sure you want to change all similar documents to open with the application “Preview.app”?

But nothing happens after I click ok.

And earlier today, I would see all my apps come up, but in annoying icon form.

But now I can't even get to that stage.

Oh.

You selected "Get Info" on a document in the Finder and tried to change the app used to open that document.

Please take the time to ****ing explain what the hell you're doing if you expect anybody to spend their time on helping you.

Thank you.

App opening choice:
Command-i -> Open with: (popup)

Finder window viewing prefs:
1. Open a Finder window to the folder you're interested in.
2. Set that window to desired view (Cmnd-1 or Cmnd-2 or Cmnd-3 or Cmnd-4)
3. Command-j -> [x] Always open in xxxxx view, [x] Browse in xxxxx view

Note that a Finder viewing pref is not always honored. Folders sometimes ignore your setting and open however they please. This has been true since about Leopard.
