I'm still very new to OSX, so forgive me if this is a silly question. I realize OSX comes equipped with a virtual 9 OS, is that right?

Is there a way to turn it on? Or?? Is it just the application installed that automatically launches a virtual 9? Or??

Can someone elaborate?
Is there a way to switch between the two OS'?

It's called "Classic". When you launch a application that requires OS9, "Classic" will automatically launch. Most new Macs (the current eMac & anything after the 17" iMac of 2002) don't support booting OS9 to run on its own.

To see if it's installed to be able to boot to open System Preferences in OSX and click Startup Disk. That will show you either one or two volumes. If one of those is OS9, click on it and then when you boot your Mac it will start-up OS9 only. To return to OSX, open Control Panels (in the OS9 Apple Menu) and again Startup Disk. Pick OSX to be the OS when you restart the Mac the next time.
