I have 5 mac networked in my house and since installing OS X on an imac 266 I have lost any local recognition.... I have internet access through the DSL but neither side OS X vs 9.1 can see eachother.
One thing to check open up your terminal.app and see if you can ping any of the other host on the network. If you can type /usr/sbin/arp -a this will show if you are recieving any mac address from any other ethernet devices on your network. And what ip range are you using if local you can tell me if not I don't blame your for not.
If your doing FileSharing, you need to turn on TCP/IP filesharing access on the OS 9 computers (AppleMenu->ControlPannels->FileSharing->CLICK "enable file sharing clients to connect over TCP/IP" (In the "Start/Stop" tab.
