Well, it's not an entire theme, just a really aqua title bar. I havent put much thought into the theme, and I'm sure there are some glitches.

It's based almost entirely on 'Smooth Stripes' by Max Rudberg. He did the hard work of getting the stripes out of Aqua.

Download it here

The Photoshop .psd files are available here and here. Feel free to modify it to your taste.

Edit: fix links

It's just another aqua alternative but it certainly does look nice!

Why not make the blue flat? Maybe it'll look better that way?

Why not call it Star Trekqua? It looks like something from Star Trek but mixed with aqua

I really like that but I would suggest a rounded left side title bar corner to play off the rounded blue shape.

I hope that if you continue to develop this theme you make the kind of decisions which got this titlebar looking so nice.

Adam: It's apple's origional aqua, without the stripes (thanks Max) and a pumped up title bar. I actually quite like Aqua, but I couldn't stand the stripes. Now you mention it, It kinda looks like the Nacelles from Star Trek TNG

OddmanOut: Yes. Just unstuff and drop the folder in Root/Library/Themes. Duality will find it.

swiz: Feel free to modify it and re release it. The layered Photoshop files are linked above. I started this a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm flat out at work and don't have the time to do any more. (I worked 15hrs yesterday)

I hope someone cen use this as a starting point for a complete theme. Warp 9 Plasma CoreTNG.theme

Thanks Maya, I wouldnt feel right modifying and distributing anything without consent. This titlebar really does alot for my opinion of Aqua. I will prolly just take it a step further and tweak some other pieces along the same lines as what you have done. I'll post a screenshot when I get some progress made and if anyone is interested then I'd release it with express credit to you and Max of course. It wont be anytime soon though as work has its grasp here as well.

Hey Maya cool theme!! Swiz, everything you touch looks good so I can't wait to see what you do with this one!! I think you should call it "Star Trekqua" also!! Speaking of Star Trek, I am still waiting for someone to make an LCARS theme!! Is this possible or am I getting my hopes up for nothing??

I've used the LCARS theme on Linux and believe me, it may look nice but in reality, it's interface hell. Nasty. Worst theme I've ever used on Linux.

Totally understandable Max, I will start with a base Aqua theme with Maya's titlebars.

It's ok to use it, but only if you ask first. But if it's easier to start from scratch then that's what you should do anyway

Here's my take on what the titlebar should look like, either:

(rounded)

or

(straight)

I don't know if the dual end caps are even possible when it comes to making a theme, if not then I guess I just wasted 5 minutes of my life throwing this idea together...
Anyway, if it can be done and any theme makers like either of these ideas then take a stab at it. I'm not a theme maker by the way.

I prefer the straight one. the rounded one is more "aquaie" though.

hey, I like this theme. The menubar/taskbar should have a gradient IMHO (looks flat), like the metallic XP theme or reversing the silverfox gradient.

Might I suggest a "graphite" version? It looks odd with the system's graphite active.

having the blue thing go across the entire right side looks better IMHO.

Unfortunately, the way the extras.rsrc are designed, that isn't really possible.

CarbonG4 Man that Dual cap straight looks very nice indeed. The title bar looks like a nice silver. I love the other shade of silver in the toolbar without the stripes I wonder if there is a way to design a different toolbar icon for "Applications" and "Home" They look pretty and out of place next to the other rounded 3d like buttons.

Can we download this theme anywhere?

I wonder if the theme guys have thought about shading in a very light color every second file or folder in the Finder windows. If you look at the iTunes main window you notice there are faint lines vertically separating the columns and every second file has a faint color bar drawn horizontally. It to me creats separation and fixes the "Too much White" look.

It's a great idea. Unfortunately, it can't be done with a theme; it requires actual code. And you can't replace code in the Finder yet, at least not with any method we know.

Apple has talked about the Finder supposedly being extensible via plug-ins in the past, for things like Finder previews and such. It may be possible to do this with some kind of plug-in. But no one knows how to make the plug-ins yet.

I just came across a theme that I've never seen before called AlumiteX made by Takashi Izawa. Anyway, looking at his title bar it would appear that he somehow managed to manipulate both ends of the title bar, if you aren't familiar with this theme take a look at it in this screenshot I just posted on DeskMod:
http://www.deskmod.com/?show=showskin&skin_id=7105

Has he successfully defined end caps for both ends or is this some other trick? And would similar methods work to achieve a dual end cap look for the Total Aqua theme like I mocked up?

Izawa really rocks. He puts together some really cool stuff me thinks.
Only one problem. None of his themes seem to want to switch in Duality 3.0 I am currently am going to test it in 3.1.

OK...fully tested...

This theme is beautiful! I am totally in love with it. Though, it only works in MetaMorphX for some reason I have tried to get it to work in Duality 3.0 and 3.1, but to no avail.
I am sure this is not duality's fault. I took a look at Izawa's info.plist, and he is doing some really wierd stuff But...I would say give this bad boy a ride!

I installed the theme just fine using Duality 3.01b... I wouldn't have even found the theme w/o using Duality, I was trying out the Live Theme update feature and found many themes I've never heard of before.

That's really interesting, is the theme, I do know that it is possible only for Carbon by extending the caps themselves and going with that, but it also affects Adium, which is Cocoa. My guess is that he resized the toolbar button and just used a smaller click mask. But that can't be right either since not all the apps shown have toolbars... I'll have to download it and take a look and then I can get back to you

I just want ot state for the record this theme by Izawa is the coolest theme I have ever seen for any OS. It fits me like a glove, better than I could have done for myself actually. This is really beautiful, this is a theme that will make non-Mac-people really think of OSX as being beautiful.

Where can I get DUALITY 3.1? I really want to try AlumiteX [A] 1.0!!! Everyone is raving over this theme and I feel SO left out. Please direct me to that ultra cool theme too. I don't know what the name is but it is very circular and it even looks as though Folders are represented as "Globes" or circles half aqua colored. I think that theme looks very attractive. I think I remember reading that it should be up on XTHEMINATION! But it isn't there! Help!!! I feel theme - deprived!!!!

I think you are talking about "Underling" See this thread: http://forums.macnn.com/cgi-bin/ulti...&f=37&t=002620

The link to the theme doesn't seem to work though... anyone know where it is?

hey guys,

here is the link for underling:
http://home.attbi.com/~fallentree3/u...3_03_27_02.sit

It should work, I just tried it. But let me know if you are still having problems. Also, I haven't had a chance to work on it for a week, but will get some done over the weekend. I'll post the update on these forums.

btw, i don't supply any custom icons with underling. You may have seen a desktop picture on resexcellence that had my theme coupled with some nice icons. the link is here: http://www.resexcellence.com/snapsho..._Merrill.shtml

In case anyone wants to know, Izawa made the window caps wider. This works as OS X splits the image in the middle.

It's been like 5 months but.. that's not it, try it, it'll only work in Carbon apps. I believe it's been discussed in detail in some other thread, has to do with the layo.

IIRC, he did something like changing the layo so that the left titlebar endcap is stretched in carbon progs, and used a wide endcap so that the whole thing shows up in Cocoa, giving the same effect in both by using two different methods.

It was something like that. I remember that is was pretty freakin' clever.

Hopefully never, my point was to show people making themes to be a bit more original, and more honest about it. And give credit where credit is due. I just found it ironic that boozo was so pissy about people asking him permission to use "his theme" first, when he doesn't do the same.

I think point was made. No need to bring it back up.

I agree, credit is important. And of course I don't like (just like you) when someone copy my work. I just hated it when Milk got copied to XP with out me knowing it. Here I agree that I overreacted about it, since he did give me credit. I realize that you feel the same way towards me, but I swear that I did not know how similar SimpleAqua looked when I made SmoothStripes. If I had known about it I would have asked you first. And I must say I do admire your work. I used Sosumi for a long time when it came out and it inspired me to try out theming myself. I hope there is no hard feelings and that you will continue to create new themes, because there is a need for quality X themes!

I didn't mind it when Sosumi got copied over, nor did I mind when Simple Aqua got copied over to XP, I guess I was asked about it first, and given credit for making the original. But even if I wasn't, It's a XP theme..
No Max, no hard feelings. Esp since this last post.

Thank You.

Actually, I asked eveyone to try and make a smooth white theme. Both Milk and that theme are the result.
-"I don't believe in God. "
"That doesn't matter. He believes in you."

-"I'm not agnostic. Just nonpartisan. Theological Switzerland, that's me."
