My lombard is slightly 'snappier' now, text entry in omniweb keeps up with my typing (20 wpm...so I'm not pushing any limits). The Word update is nice too but still not as responsive as Word98 in classic. Overall, this update (with the rage pro drivers) has made a small difference! It just goes to show you that a class action suit can be a waste of time. I will probably keep this machine for an extra month now.

Thanks for the update apple.

New Feature: On the new iMac, the LCD will dim after about 5 minutes of non-use. I guess this saves on the life span of the LCD.

Thanks A@ron, but I tried that already...
Still doesn't show in Software Update.

I guess I'll have to wait for the standalone installer

I have read a couple times above about an "Explorer" update. This is for Internet Explorer, correct? Does anyone know roughly when to expect this? Will it update to IE 6.0? Please share any info you have regarding this if possible. Thank you

I got my first Kernel panic EVER on my 'old' Ti667 after install on the blue boot up screen. All kinds of text black and white overlayed it and seemed frozen. Killed it off with the power button and everything seems fine now. The QT6 install worked fine after it. To be fair it was on a freshly CarbonCopyCloned partition that hadn't been checked with Disc Utility or Norton yet so that could have been a big part of it because Norton always finds major errors with Cloned partitions. It was actually kinda cool to see a Kernel Panic after a year and a half of reading about them!

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

I also was greeted with a kernel panic on my Pismo 500 after the update. It didn't want to correct itself, unfortunately. After disconneting all USB (mouse and HP printer) and Firewire (two disks) peripherals it booted right up. I added them in one by one and it continued running. I rebooted again with everything attached to see if it started OK, and it did.

My wife's iMac 800 upgraded without a problem.

Bringing OmniWeb to the front from hidden is now so much faster. Menus also seem to be slightly more responsive but removing the drop shadows still brings a noticeable speed boost. Nice update for my iBook 500. Will install on my iMac 233 rev B tomorrow. RAGE Pro 2D acceleration! But its now 3 in the morning here in Scotland so I'm going to sleep...

I kept getting kernel panics on startup as well that only stopped when I removed "PowerDelete" and "Broadband Optimizer" from my startup items folder.

Well, the "About this Mac" function gets its information about the version and build from "/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist".

I would imagine that this is a central location for this info, given the name, and that there wouldn't be another spot for Software Update to get it -- *assuming* that it is only this info, and not some kernel version check or something, upon which S/W update relies.

You could test this by *backing up* "/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist...

and then "sudo pico "/System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist" in the terminal (lose the quotation marks). Since its a .plist it should be readable clear text, and you can change the appropriate strings.

But this is only a damn hypothesis, and I have NO FSCKING IDEA if it will utterly destroy your installation, or eat your children, Mike Tyson-style.

You try it. I'm not gonna try it. I won't even delete the reciepts... I have no idea what that does.

I ran Disk Warrior last night...part of my monthly routine. Lucky for us this update comes along..hehe , ya we're all happy here now..lol
anyway, I installed it 10 minutes ago and just ran DW again. Ok, I was at O% Directory fragmentation and now at 7%.
Although most of us know this, I'm just reminding those of you out there that you should do it. It will definitely Make your Mac "snappier"
and make it more stable too.
By the way, my New Canon A40 now works in X ..like a dream...

10.1.5 went on smooth. Then I rebooted, no kernal panic, but the following error:

Application Launch Failure
The application "Transport Monitor" could not be
launched because of a shared library error:
"8<Transport Monitor> <Transport
Monitor> <HotSyncLib.PPC> <>"

Also, to add a pic to Moki's Office AA pic, here is a comparision shot of one before and after.

WOOHOO! It worked! Thank you so much, Brachiator!

I'm not too familiar with the Terminal, so here's what I did:

Backed-up SystemVersion.plist and also made a copy on the desktop. Opened this copy with TextEdit, changed version number (10.1.4) and build (5Q125).
Changed permissions of the "CoreServices" folder with Super GetInfo; replaced SystemVersion.plist with modified version.

Changed permissions of folder back to root and just ran Software Update, without even rebooting.

YESSS!!

Well, I was hoping that the video card drivers would make a difference on my unsupported video card (my original iBook SE 366mhz, pre-Firewire), and BOY DID IT EVER! It's just scary how much better this is than before. Window dragging is glass smooth. Menus faster. Windows of all kinds respond faster. Everything is faster (having that little bit of graphics acceleration has helped the poor old G3). Quicktime plays wonderfully.

Haven't tried it on my PowerMac G4 yet, but since it's got a GeForce 2, it's not going to benefit like this. The Quartz for Office, improved iDisk and such, that'll be good. Seems like a great update overall.

Just wondering if this update rectifies the dial up bug where you continually get disconnected with "Remote side was not responding..." errors?

Is it just me, or does anyone else notice faster sorting speeds in list view? (Sort a folder of 1000 MP3s by name, date, etc.) I know that some people had had a problem with this in the past and some hadn't. I was one of those who had. I'm much happier now.

On looking over what has been updated, I noticed the Flash Plug-in 6.0r23 was replaced with 6.0r29.

Startup Item DoubleCommand will cause a kernel panic. Otherwise, no problems. The DC Guys know about this and appear to be working on it.

Last night after installing the new version of Office X, I tried using some of the transitions on clipart in PowerPoint. Fade, Swirl, and Dissolve all were very sluggish as before. But now after installing 10.1.5, they appear very smooth! Awesome, finally I can give decent presentations in PowerPoint on my Mac!

10.1.5 went on smooth. Then I rebooted, no kernal panic, but the following error:

I got the exact same error but it was because of Palm Desktop.

I also had a very odd bug. I went to play Diablo 2 online, when I connected to the game it just gave me a black screen so I force quit the app. Fine. Then when I went to relaunch it it said I had multiple copys already running. Since I knew I didn't I checked it out with top and ps -aux, and it came up negative. So I did the cheater way out and rebooted (I had a game waiting on me) and when it came back up (took over 5 minutes hanging at the blue screen) my clock and part of spy.pref were blinking like every 2 seconds and the applescript, volume, monitor and the other half of spy did not come up. When I went to launch terminal the window server crashed and then came back up. Did the same thing again and after that I opened a finder window went to /library/receipts and removed the 10.1.5 receipt. Restarted. This time their was no hang at boot and everything came up normally.

On a side note even though I removed the receipt the system still reads as 10.1.5

"Why *NIX?"

Well...because there are multiple UNIX-derived OSs (as was stated before), and because technically, UNIX is a trademarked OS owned by AT&T.

Removed it and no problems after restart. Placed double command back in Startup folders and restarted. Bingo no more kernel panic. Got my double command back.

You are not rebooting.

You are not getting the new kernel.

You are still running (mostly) the old operating system without the updates.

You are kidding yourself.

If you want 1337 up71m35 then don't update your system.

If you want to have the latest stable system, do the update and reboot.
