Well...this is a confusing one...Can someone help me make sense of this? Says I only have 5 Gb left on my HD, and I have used 292 out of roughly 300, yet when you look at the HD window on the list view on the right, the total space isnt NEARLY 292...I'm missing nearly 100Gb...is there some way in the terminal I can see if there are hidden files or something using up all my free space?? Any help is appreciated....

Read the man page to select the appropriate options. (probably "-hd 1" or similar)

I use Whatsize to get a handle on what type of files are filling up my hard drive.

Ok, so I tried the following, first, I threw out a bunch of stuf, so I would have some more free space, I dont like having only 5gb free on my boot drive, and then ran du with the following parameters:

du -h -m -c

and got the following:

Doesnt seem to add up.

The get info window thinks I used 233 Gb, the HD finder window adds up to about 142 Gb, and the du terminal total is about 130 Gb.... Any ideas??

This is an imac core2 duo 2.8Ghz, stock 320Gb drive-

Use a graphical tool like Disk Inventory X. It's much easier to visually see where your space is being used.

Ahhh....Success.

So I d'ld Disk Inventory X, and started snooping around, and I noticed under VOLUMES, an 83Gb volume named BACKUP DRIVE 1. Which is odd, since thats the name of my external backup drive, and shouldnt be on my boot drive. And its invisible.

A little more snooping revealed that Carbon Copy Cloner which I use to backup at night had created a false clone, probably because my drive somehow lost its connection during the clone, see:

So once again, I have free HD space.

Thank you all....
