I have a folder icon for logic pro 7 and I am wanting to make it a .icns file so I can replace the tacky one that comes with logic express. However, just adding that extension doesn;t work when I replace the original icns file with the new one. Is this possible to do?

What program did you make the icon in? I think Pixadex, Iconographer and Iconbuilder (via photoshop) can export as a .icns file.

Someone else made them and emailed them to me from another forum. I emailed him back explaining that following his instructions to give it the .icns extention wasn't working and clicking on the file (even after renaming) opened up the finder just like a folder does. Can I email someone the folder graphic for conversion as I don't have any of those programs? Thanks!

Thanks! I downloaded a demo of one of the programs you listed and it did the conversion and now it worked! Thanks again!

Thee best app out there for converting icon file formats is iconverter. This little app is free and loaded with everything anyone needs. It can convert icon file formats to .icns, tiff, gif, and png. Check it out at MacUpdate.com

Peace.
If you want more advanced compositing over your icons, give Can Combine Icons a try. It's shareware, but it totally kicks the donkey. We use it when we make DMG icons and stuff. =)
