I have a FW HD currently formatted for a PPC Mac. I want to reformat it so that it can be used to start up an Intel iMac (GUID partition table). Ideally, I would like to give it two partitions, one to back up my iMac and another to back up data from a PC in my lab. Will Disk Utility allow you to format one partition as Mac OS extended and another as MS DOS? If so, would this do what I am intending?

Second question. If I have a GUID volume on a FW drive, can Migration Assistant be used to copy over everything on the iMac to the external? If not, can I clone an Intel Mac volume with Carbon Copy Cloner?

It will definitely let you format one as PC and one as Mac, but I'm not certain about booting as I've only done it on a USB drive.
