Whois is a command that looks up information on a domain name. In this case, it looks like there are lots of different domain names that all contain "google.com" (most of them are totally unrelated sites that just want to come up for the search "google.com"), so it's listing them and asking which one you mean to look up.

Ha Ha!
Try doing a whois on amazon.com. You will get this:
Awesome! Any more to find?

So, obviously, leaving out the "WWW." in front of the domain does that kind of stuff.
Does anyone know why ?
If you leave out the www. in your web browser address bar, you'll still get to the right place.
I'm sure there is an easy explanation.

Like I said, it's supposed to perform a lookup of the DNS record. In this case, when you search for "amazon.com", it sees there are many records (most of them pranks) that begin with "amazon.com" and it lists them all followed by a message saying, basically, "Please choose one of these."

The whois lookup is being ungreedy on the front of its search. it finds apple.com.irule.com just as it finds apple.com, or apple.com.joe.net, and returns the list so you can specify which you want.
