hi there,

I am having a mbp sr 2.4 GhZ standard configuration.
I notice a buzzing sound that is hard to locate on one side of
the mbp where the power button is. It seems to be from the fan/
keyboard area. In a busy office you wont probably notice it very much in a
silent room one definitely does. It seems to get louder when the fan ramps up.
It sounds like a interference noise. I noticed further that when the machine
is not on a plain surface but for example on my laps the sound gets more noticeable too.

It doesnt seem to be related to programs, audio or display settings or anything of that nature
as far as I can tell.

Has anybody noticed something similiar on a sr notebook? Any ideas what could be the source
of the issue?

thanks

Simon

Run Apple Hardware Test (boot from the install DVD and hold 'd'). If you have a bad fan AHT should report it.

I had similar symptoms a while ago. It turned out the right fan (GPU fan) had gone bad. I gave Apple the AHT error codes. They replaced the fan under warranty no questions asked.

Does the noise change with the fan speed? You can download smcFanControl to vary the fan speed. Does that have an influence on the noise?
