My account says I have only my iMac, my iPhone and my iPad authorized, yet when I try to authorize my MPB (early 2015, Core i5 2.9GHz), I get the "you can only have five computers authorized" error.

Apple's support has been limited to trashing the SC Info folder and restarting - which did nothing.

Any ideas? This isn't the end of the world, but it's darned frustrating!

You can try deauthorizing them all and adding them back in?

Sounds like you have a couple phantom devices authorized. Probably old stuff you threw out years ago.

Apple: view iTunes devices list
Apple ID: view everything using your Apple ID (includes all iTunes devices + others)

My Apple ID list shows my iMac, my MBP, my iPad, my phone, my watch, and an old iPad. That’s a total of 6 devices, and only 2 are computers. So my quandary remains.

I may have to just do as you say, andi, and deauthorize all of them, then authorize them again, one at a time. That’s darned inconvenient for me, especially to fix a problem I didn’t (apparently) cause.

I deauthorized everything, then authorized my MBP, which worked. Now to authorize my other stuff...

I reauthorized my iMac without issues. The iDevices didn't need any authorizing and just kept working.

I've gotta wonder what was going on though. Manually de-authorizing to well below the limit should have fixed it...
