I hope that one of the upcoming killer-features in Mac OS 10.4 is the Desktop Bowl. I want to be able to place icons into a bowl on my desktop, and then be able to take them out when I need them. This is a more intuitive way of working with documents, because a bowl represents simplicity and organisation. But I cannot wait for 10.4 to come out, so where can I download a third-party Desktop Bowl? Thanks.

yes they are, look:

See you can have different types of bowls for different types of documents, and you can just empty them out on your desktop when you need your document.

Make a new folder on the desktop
Rename it to "Desktop Bowl"
Move all your folder and documents into this folder
Look in the "Desktop Bowl" when you need something you think you put in there.

and to make it more bowl like you need to set the folder to something like "sort by: random"

You can use the power of AppleScript to do this. Write a folder action script that shuffles icon positions whenever the folder is opened.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.

Wouldn't a Random sorter be counterintuitive to an app called "Finder"?

I have to say thats one of the least organized methods and I cannot see apple ever doing this, in fact I never heard of this until this posting. Why not just use a folder, like, I don't know a picture folder to "take them out when I need them"

These threads are usually for my own amusement (see: Signing Other People Offline ), but I'm glad that other people occasionally find them funny too.
