Hi everyone,

I'm kinda new to Quake III on the Mac, but ive played it a bit on the PC, and got a few questions that i hope people can help with

Does Q3A run in OS9? I'm not sure but it looks like it when i start it up... If so, is there a way to make it run in OS X? Im asking because i plan to upgrade to panther real soon, and i hope i dont need to keep OS9 on the HDD.

Also, my sound is a bit lagging... but the framerates are pretty good... (on a iBook 900/Radeon 7500), is there a known fix?

Also, can i connect to PC Q3A servers from my mac (assuming running same client version, 1.32), or am i bound to MAC servers?

Thanks all for your time, and god bless

quake3 runs fine on my ai15. it was slow but ok on my pismo, too.

there is no uptodate versions for os9 anymore. you cant connect to online games if they use the actual version 1.32 (i think). with os x and 1.32 theres no problem connecting to windows or linux quake servers.

You can download the Quake 3 for OS X updates:

Non-Altivec (G3 machines)
id software: ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/qua...e3-132.pkg.sit
AusMac.net HTTP: http://www.mirrors.ausmac.net/ftp/Ga...e3-132.pkg.sit
AusMac.net FTP: ftp://ftp.mirrors.ausmac.net/pub/mac...e3-132.pkg.sit

Altivec (G4 and G5 machines)
id software: ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/qua...cTest2.pkg.sit
AusMac.net HTTP: http://www.mirrors.ausmac.net/ftp/Ga...cTest2.pkg.sit
AusMac.net FTP: ftp://ftp.mirrors.ausmac.net/pub/mac...cTest2.pkg.sit

Note that the Altivec version includes a copy of the non-Altivec version as well, so if you're going to run the software on an Altivec machine and a non-Altivec machine, you can just get the Altivec version.

Anyone know what the status of Altivec-enhanced Q3A is? There hasn't been an update to it in a while, and it was nice getting a little boost on my eMac with the Altivec enhancements. I know Graeme Devine left id and he was the main programmer for this... does this mean no more updates for Q3A?

Hi,

Well correct me if im wrong, but there hasnt been a Windows update in a while either. I think the Windows 1.32 patch is dated 2002, and i think it was "final".

So i dont think there will be any more updates for *any* system. Anyway the game is quite old now

Q3 may be a few years old, but it still rocks. The engine runs great, and the game still looks good by today's standards.

Punkbuster will be a bitch. I still can't get it to update, thus I can't play online.

Hi,

I agree that Q3A does still rock, i was just saying its old so updates aren't really a high priority for id... its still *my* most played online game

As for punkbuster, visit this site:

http://www.quake3world.com/forums/

Go into Macintosh forum and check out the FAQ (sticky). PB works great now!
