Are lcd's from the same maker usually compatible? Like, if I have an old 14.1" Powerbook that needs a new Samsung lcd, can I use any 14.1" Samsung lcd or do I need the LT141X2-*** ?

Most different panels tend to be different. Sounds like you're talking about a G3 PowerBook panel. There are two or three which will definitely work. Anything from a Lombard or Pismo will do. You might need to get the correct display cable for it too.

The white iBooks use a whole raft of panels. As long as you get the cable too, they are usually interchangeable.
