I have never used .Mac before, and suddenly the .Mac syncing menu has appeared amoungst my plethora of menu icons:

This appeared last night after reboot following the 10.5.4 update, on a Nov 2007 Macbook, specs in my sig.

Needless to say, I'd like it gone. I've opened the menu and selected "Open .Mac Preferences" but there is no option to remove the icon.
At first, it was angry about events from my plaxo account (which I haven't used in ages so I'm not sure how it found it). Thus I did:
1) deleted the plaxo account entirely
2) it had already downloaded the events so it still complained about "conflicts" so I cleared them all up.

Am I being bullied into trying .Mac?

Command-click and drag the icon off the menubar. This works for any of them.
