UPDATE:

Well, it's windy out. No big deal. It has since turned into a powerful category 4 storm�not good. Looks like we're not going to get much more than a few gusts, now. Tampa, Orlando (Disney World), and Jacksonville? Well, you guys are f*cked. Good luck.

I never got my Doritos, by the way. FedEx choppers must've been caught in a storm. Got any tracking numbers?

Yeah, bad news on the Doritos buddy. I spoke with FedEx, and they had one "special" plane they use for such adverse conditions. Unfortunately, they haven't seen or heard from him since this morning.

I fear the fishies may be eating your Doritos and drinking your beer.

Yeah, I'm really on top of things today.

I've been in training all week, and I think it has damaged me mentally somehow.

Good to see you guys still have electricity - keep the reports coming. I've never been in a hurricane, but as I love storms, it would be interesting to experience one. Minus the destruction of course.

Damn, and I got all psyched up about this thing too. All we've gotten is a little bit of rain here and there, no winds at all. First it was coming for us, now Port Charlotte. I was ready for this bitch too, seeing as how I planted some $300 plants earlier this week. At least I can do some looting at some Siesta Key mansions.

WOW just spoke to with my brother in Port Charlotte. The eye of the hurricane went right over his house. He said it was busting loose then all calm, then 5 minutes later it started busting loose again from the other direction. The house has no shingles now, also the garage door is gone. And lets not forget the vegetation, it's all gone, big trees included.
supposed to have been around 140 mph winds. My parents only lost 2 trees. But the most important thing is that they're all ok. I hope that all others in the area are the same OK.

Sounds scary. Glad to hear your family is ok. I was really surprised that it grew to a category 4 after hearing all the predictions that it might make it to a 3. Pretty amazing.

As long as were putting Mickey outside, can someone put Eisner out there too?

Just got spoke with my family, it sounds like Port Charlotte is gone.
A evacuation shelter roof collapsed. Supposed to have been several hundred people inside. And the outer bands are now hitting here in cocoa beach. I'll be glad when this sh*t is over.

I really hope Charlie gives us a miss here in central NC. Bonnie spawned several tornadoes in our area killing 3 and injuring 29. We have enough problems when hurricanes hit us coast on. We don't need Florida sending us their leftovers. Don't blow away peeps!

Maybe if we had actually had some hurricane action here in Miami and I had about 5 more beers. Storm just grazed us. I think we're pretty much the only city not screwed by this one. What a c*ck tease.

Hurricane Charley update:

Expected to make landfall just about now a little south of Myrtle Beach, SC. We've seen so many here in the Cape Fear area (Wilmington, NC) in recent years, we set everything to auto-pilot and move on. Got my generator and chainsaw fueled up just in case.

Time to get my son up for his Saturday morning cartoon marathon while I surf the 'net and listen to iTunes (now playing - "Motorcade of Generosity" from Cake)...

Us South Floridians (east coast) got lucky this time (I'm in Palm Beach County). There was more wind and rain two nights ago than last night here.

Amazing that while I'm blissfully watching the Olympics Opening Ceremonies (and being annoyed by Costas and Couric) a major disaster is carving it's way through the state only a couple hours away, and there's very little evidence of it outside my window.

My work takes me to the west coast of Florida for about 8 weeks a year. I have friends in Naples, Fort Myers/Cape Coral, and Daytona who I'm hoping to hear from today...

Wow, reading this brings back memories. I was in Myrtle Beach when Bertha and Fran hit back in 1996. Had to work (newspaper designer) and played Scrabble both times the hurricanes made ground.

But, especially with Bertha, a few hours before it started to rev up were some of the best weather I've seen, anywhere.

Anyway, stay dry guys.

I was for just a bit. It rained most of the time we were there, and I had duty two of the days, so I had to stay aboard the ship. It was nice out the first day.

Been without power since 12:30pm. Broke out the generator early this evening, got the freezer, fridge, tv, and the cable modem/netgear wireless hub running as I type this from my 12" powerbook. Thank God it's not too hot...

Some electricity would be really good by morning, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm going home tomorrow to what is left of Punta Gorda. Not looking forward to it.
But at least my family made it through. My brothers house didn't make it.

Power back up at 11:30pm!

Of course, we were helping get our neighbor's generator out of storage and hooked up. They had never used it before, so it figured we'd get power just as we filled it up with oil, gas, and ran all the extension cords.

Um OK. But theres a small video that was shown on the news taken by an amateur "storm chaser". Just amazing the wind. I was wondering if there are any sites that anyone would know of with home video of the storm.
