Intel has finally got around to at least announcing the first Broadwell chips.

Intel’s launches three Core M CPUs, promises more Broadwell “early 2015” | Ars Technica

The chips delight in the insanely hilarious names Core-M 5Y70 and 5Y10. Where I work, 5Y is a problem solving technique where you are supposed ask Why multiple times to drill down to the root of the problem. I guess Intel hasn't heard of problem solving, or they would have had Broadwell out in time.

Anyway. These seem like useful chips for the next gen MBAs, so it is worth mentioning them. Base clock is silly low (1.1 and 0.8 GHz, respectively) but turbo maxes at 2.6 and 2.0 GHz respectively. GPU turbo maxes at 850 MHz, which is similar to today's models. GPU is up from 20 to 24 shader clusters, and texture clusters is up from two to three. It is effectively the Ivy GPU increased by 50%.

The big news is that TDP is down to a measly 4.5W, which is about half of today's models. I suspect that that may lead to an even thinner MBA in the next revision. Clearly the current one is really quite fat, when you think about it...
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
