Will be looking forward to the answer. It would be nice to know a little about the founder.

Does he now own it? Just curious, for some reason I got the feeling MacNN was a non profitable site, one that survived on community donations and the like. I know I have never clicked on an ad, let alone purchased anything from an advertiser.

A quick Google will give the scoop. Not hard too find.

You know, that's actually believable!

At roughly 28 posts a day one could believe he doesn't have time for anything except Macnn.

28 posts a day.. would take probably less than a hour to accomplish.

What for ever do I do with the other 23 hours of my day!

It began on the BIG BANG princple. Some guy bumped into the WorldWideWeb, knocked it over and there was a big bang. Macnn soon evolved from a pile of mucus sludge.

Heres the history as I know it:

(note, this may all be complete bs, feel free to correct me if anything/everything is wrong.)

Monish Started Macnn

Some other company bought it, macnn went downhill, returned to original owner

Monish teamed up with misha? and macnn continued

misha/monish got in a fight (something about a stereo at one's house) misha left, started his own lacklustre website

macnn continues to strive.

from this thread

well, you see, it's like this:
a girl macnn and a boy macnn meet in a bar one day. they hit it off. girl macnn thinks the boy is pretty cute. so she agrees to go back to boy macnn's place for some "coffee". a slow dissolve to a windowed sunset later and macnn.com was conceived.
and yes, there was a custody battle (some would call it an attempted kidnapping) a year ago, but it was resolved without longterm psychological damage to the macnn child.

You need to freshen up on your MacNN history a little.

CaseCom did a wonderful job of summing it all up in another thread:

It all went down in May 2001. Monish (owner of MacNN) sold a controlling share of MacNN to the NewsFactor Network (NFN). The forums weren't affected at first, but on the main page they imposed NewsFactor-style navigation, and we instantly hated it. Plus, during the transition the news page went un-updated for about two days, which really hurt because it was the weekend Apple opened the first retail stores.

Anti-NFN posts in the Lounge rose to the point where they brought down the hammer, with a NFN admin locking and deleting threads, banning members and deleting accounts. Then it was open war for about two days, until a truce was declared, the NFN admins stepped back from the forums and things simmered down.

Misha, who ran the forums then, left MacNN for MacMinute. (He has since left MacMinute; I'm not sure what he's doing now.)

In the end, NewsFactor let Monish back out of the deal, on condition that MacNN had to feature links to NFN for 12 months and couldn't badmouth them. Gorgonzola and Co. have run the forums since then.

Ah ... good times.

Slick shoes?! Are you crazy?!

Hahaha... I remember your feuds with Wlonh. Wasn't he responsible for the whole OCN fiasco? It appears Overclockers Network is no longer in existence. It's a shame, as you can see from the link I posted, that place was full of many well mannered lads.

Discovering that MacNN is an Indian invention (sort of) has been a wonderful surprise. I had assumed it must be Canadian or something..

Even more wonderful (as a Brit) was the discovery that MacNN's SysAdmin is called Nat West.
