I think that iTunes has become self aware and is announcing that it has learned to cry and learned to love.

iTunes will now feature the entire Beatles discography, in an agreement between Apple Computer and Apple Records in which Yoko Ono is to receive all of Steve Jobs' black turtlenecks.

In all seriousness, this is a pretty hefty claim (that you'll never forget) and a pretty unprecedented way for Apple to announce something (online only). Plus, it being on the entire splash page on apple.com has to mean it's something pretty sizable.

It has to be something relating to that big data center they opened... but what?

And if it really is such a huge deal, why isn't there a press conference?

Well, Steve declared iTunes the best Windows software ever to be created. He has a habit of being a little overzealous in his claims.

And if it really is such a huge deal, why isn't there a press conference?
I dunno, but I hope this is the shape of things to come. Their media events are getting less and less interesting.

You're right, but I edited my message as you posted yours.

Still, I expect to receive my black iPhone 4 today. I wonder if I should wait one more day before opening the box.

Question peeps: A while back there was some Apple press event which featured an acoustic guitar with apple-soundhole on the promo lit. I seem to have completely missed what that guitar was about. Anyone care to fill me in?

"Grampa... where where you when Apple announced some stupid thing no one really cares about?"

"Well... the year was twenty-ot-ten, it was November, yup, November 16. Taylor Swift was spinning on our Zunes, er, no, back then we all still had iPods... anyway, it was still back in the first of Obama's seven terms in office, right before the great corn syrup uprising and the great Twitter wars. Many good men were lost, oh yes they were... anyway... that was the day, Apple announced some dumb crap no one cares about... and boy, was that a day I will never forget. Never."

Isn't it just because that is what the time would be due to +/- GST? Coincidence, methinks. Apple usually uses those 4 cities, and sometimes Paris.

I doubt it's video related, unless they were able to secure rights in the countries with those time zones, which I doubt.

So, speculation is that it has to be an announcement of more content, or something that can be handled purely by changing the XML in iTunes... because if it was some crazy streaming thing there would be clues in the code of the new iTunes.

Maybe Apple pulled a fast one on GoogleTV and is announcing some sort of huge content deal with all of the TV networks?

The ****ing iPhone Alarm Bug will finally be fixed in iOS 4.2, and thus I'll never forget to get up on time again (it's been an hour late since Europe went out of daylight savings two weeks ago).

Doesn't deleting the old alarm and making a new one (after daylight savings time hit) fix this issue?

It did in America. (Another reason why America is the greatest country in the world!!!)

I like this prediction the best. Apple TV needs something else - apps would be cool, I may even buy one.

As for iTunes: Well, with the future of Mac OS X Desktop being reduced to a glorified iPad, I therefore can see iTunes being the training ground for running apps in a controlled environment.

I do think we'll see some kind of deal with Facebook.

I would LOVE for there to be one iTunes store, worldwide.

Unfortunately, this will not be tomorrow's announcement.

It will be iOS 4.2 and streaming from your home library via a free MobileMe account option (or possibly paid, but there will be a free pared-down MobileMe service, as well).

At least, that's what I'm hoping.

Also: running regular iOS apps on the Mac is the most pointless wish ever.

With luck, maybe 15% of apps will even be operable (if clunky), and most of those only with touchscreen, which won't happen.

Still, it'd be nice to see a subset of iOS apps as Dashboard widgets. Couldn't it save extra work, for simple HTML5 widgets?

At least this way, Dashboard wouldn't be so neglected...

I confidently predict an iTunes streaming service funded by micro-payments. If you already own the song, it streams free. If you don't own it, it's free for 2 listens, then 10¢ per listen thereafter, money being pulled from your iTunes account.

a) You can snip your own Dashboard widgets out of Safari.

b) Enable a feature that will be complete crap in 80% of the cases, and work somewhat in most of the rest, with a small handful enabling nothing that isn't already available in better-designed form as a widget/regular app? Yeah, sounds like *just* what Apple would do.

c) The reason I hardly use Dashboard anymore is because I'd rather use the iPhone app, as it's right there, anyway, and doesn't clutter up/obscure what I'm doing on-screen. Odd, but true. I didn't realize this until just now.

Agreed. It was a wrap on Dashboard for me as soon as we got apps on the iPhone. Don't think I've even launched it since. Intentionally that is.

I could see Apple making OS X have the ability to run iOS apps... not straight ports from the iOS, since the touch interface doesn't work with a mouse... but rather iOS apps converted to run with a different interface.

If you were a developer you could spend an few extra weeks of dev time and convert your iPad app to run on OS X and plop it onto the Mac App store. Some apps would never work, since the touch interface is integral to the experience... but many could be converted with little fuss.

(I'm speaking generally, not about what will be announced tomorrow)

Interesting. For me, there’s very little (if any) overlap. I still use Dashboard frequently (dictionary widget, calculator widget, converter widget, and weather widget are in constant use here). There’s no real equivalent to the dictionary widget on the iPhone (that I know of, at least), but I do use dictionary.com’s app; and I use the weather app as well. But it’s quite rare that I use the calculator or converter apps on the phone at all—in fact, if I’m at home, I’ll probably go and turn on the computer and use the Dashboard widgets if I need the functionality of either of those two.

Probably to do with the fact that I still don’t like touch keyboards, even after having used them for about two and a half years.

Calculator is in constant use on iPhone, here, as are several weather widgets. Don't use Dictionary much, unless I'm actually ON the computer. I use the leo.dict.org widget on the iPhone for the occasional word translation.

ConvertBot is annoying and fiddly, but I rarely do conversions at all.

I still find Dashboard MUCH more convenient than the iPhone if I'm actually at the computer.

Computer: Activate Dashboard.

iPhone: Pull phone out of my pocket. Type in 4-digit unlock code. Navigate to page with the app I want to use. Enter the directory. Select app and run. If it requires text input, peck through the small touch screen keyboard. - Yeah, it's much more convenient than Dashboard.

Perhaps the announcement is that they're lengthening the preview time, or do CD rentals without the ability to be burned or transferred to other device, and once played, 24-48 hours until gone.
