LG has made its case for the
G3 smartphone arguably more useful, by releasing the first game designed specifically to use it. Puppy Pop, a "match-three" game involving dogs, is being made available for free through Google Play later today, and is notably the first and only to use the round window on the front of the company's
QuickCircle protective case.
Originally, the QuickCircle case was billed as a way for LG G3 owners to check the time and notifications, send text messages, and to take photographs, all without opening the case up and fully turning on the smartphone. At the time of its reveal, LG promised to release an
SDK the following month, allowing developers to use the window with their apps, while the Puppy Pop
statement from LG calls the game "an example of the versatility and flexibility" of the SDK.
While LG's game is a novel use for its case, it isn't the first to do so. One example includes Bytesize's
Flipcase, an iOS game released last year which required players to put the
iPhone 5c's cover on the front of the device in order to play the game.
