Is it possible to transfer everything from the hd of one computer to another that has just been formatted? The reason for this is because I am at home with a dial up internet connection.. if I install Jaguar again.. it will not have all the many updates I got while I was at school with the fast t1 connection. Is there any other options I have?

works like a charm. don't know what machines you are using, but you could try putting one in firewire target disk mode, and doing the clone that way.

yep, this works great. i just did this from my Dual Gig to my 867 powerbook. worked like a charm, every file, every app works perfectly. (except for the energy saver CP, it still acts like it is a desktop, even though the mouse CP figured out that it was a portable. its a little frustrating, but not terrible, and it save me TONS of time and potential forehead slapping.)

Read A Mac OS X Hard Drive Upgrade, That should help you out with Carbon Copy Cloner.

Thank you, Thank you.

I will be transferring everything from a B&W G3 400 to a QS G4 867. Can I use target disk mode with these 2 machines?

the B&W G3's have firewire, right? can't remember...anyway, yeah, just put the QS into fw target disk mode (hold down T at startup), connect the cable, and the G4 drive should show up on your G3.

Try to delete the Energy Saver prefs, maybe it will recognize it as a portable.
