Is Intego Content Barrier really the piece of c**p it appears to be?

I've had this thing installed on the kid's iMac for 3 days now, and I'm fighting with it constantly. When I have set the control panel to restrict internet access to certain times of the day, no applications are able to access Open/Save dialogs, or even open files from the Recent items... menu list during the restricted times. I get the Content Barrier warning window, which I am unable to dismiss, as it issues a new warning as soon as I dismiss one, since the application is hung while attempting to open the files. I have to force-quit the application to get the repeated warnings to stop. If I undo the time restrictions, all is good again. I have checked, and no network drives are mounted, and all the files I'm trying to access are in the local users folder.
I figure it's doing this because it's on a LAN with two other Macs, and all three machines have file-sharing on, and Intego works the time-restrict by crapping all over any network activity, which the iMac invokes when the Open/Save dialogs are accessed. I hope I'm wrong, as I have paid for this product already. Any ideas?

Don't everybody shout at once!
So, this is real popular software, I guess.

Let me put it this way:
We include a demo version of Intego's internet package with every Mac we sell.
I usually forget.

Well, I sent the jist of this to [email protected], and they'sure have been prompt about getting back to me on this, only not.
So nobody here has a clue what this program really does when it turns off net access?
