I remember someone posted similar issue on the 15". I have 768MB RAM, running on power adapter and set to Highest Processor Performance. According to the trailer requirement, it is recommend to have a 1GHz CPU. But doesn't a 1GHz G4 is fast enough? It is not completelly jerky but just jerky at certain moments.

I just can't believe my brand new 1GHz G4 can't play a 1024x532 QT trailer smoothly or did I do something wrong? Can someone with a PB12" confirm it is the case?

Thanks for your input.

On my 1.25GHz 15" AlBook, it played jerky when I had Energy Saver set to "automatic" or "reduced" processor performance -- changing it to "highest" processor performance allowed the video to play flawlessly. (G5 users have seen similar behavior with high-performance apps.)

I posted this exact thing a couple weeks ago.

Switching the energy saver to Highest performance remedies that real quick. But I would recommend dropping another stick of RAM in there, just for good measure.

Thanks tooki and RGray02 for your input. What's your setup RGray02?

I notice it play smoother right after restart of the PB. It is the 12" so there is only one slot which is already filled. I still can't believe I need to have more then that 768MB of RAM to play. As I mentioned, I am already on Highest Performance.

There must be tons of 12" Rev B owners, can you help to confirm if this is the case?

Trillion thanks.

Runs perfect on my GHz eMac, even with other applications open (I did pause SETI though).

I'm with you tooki, it plays a little jerky on my 17" revB when set to automatic or reduced, it's perfect when set to highest.

bobpensik, just like to confirm if you played the 1024x532 resolution trailer. My friend's 12"PB867 played quite jerky with the same amount of RAM.

It does play a little better right after restarting computer but still jerky at times. I notice the jerkiness is noticeable at:
0:14, 0:27, 1:05, 1:27, 1:57 & 2:09.

May be I am fussy over playing a trailer but I think a new PB should be faster enough for the latest trailer.

This is not surprising. Reduced performance reduces the clock speed to around 400 Mhz, which causes a big hit for things like video.

On a Pismo it reduces the clock to around 200 Mhz.

Oh, my setup is a 15 inch aluminum powerbook 1ghz, completely stock, meaning it has 256 mb of ram. Im definitely hurting when it comes to other things, and it pisses me off that apple doesnt include a standard 512 for powerbooks.

As for your problems with the trailer on your 12, I dont know what to say. With that much ram, your should have no problem on automatic. perhaps your disk is fragmented? Are you running at native resolution?

I just downlaoded the trailer and ran it on my rev b 12" powerbook with 768meg ram and I didn't notice any jerkiness. I tried my hardest to see if there were just very brief moments where it lagged, since I'm not sure when you say its jerky how long it actually lasts for. But no lag for me. sorry for the bad news

I got my revB 12" with 512MB RAM yesterday morning (running Panther). I tried this last night out of interest. To start with I tried it in automatic, with a some applications open (nothing major, mail, safari, and konfabulator I think). That was really quite jerky. Then I change the processor to maximum perforamance, and tried again. Still slightly jerky. Then I closed all other open applications, and tried again, and it ran perfectly smoothly that time.

RGray02, my 10.3 is a clean install so disk fragmented shouldn't be a problem. And I am on native 1024x768.

stotan, the lag is slight, only lasted for 0.5s during those times I indicated. It is still annoying.

Thanks for your input Thorin, after reboot and I quit LaunchBar and it has improved further but still slightly lag in certain scenes.

I am giving up the smooth trailer and enjoy the other aspect of this PB.
