I have been seeing some weird Finder behavior lately when accessing an old Mac mini running Tiger from my Leopard MBP via AFP.

On the MBP I mount my Mac mini user home using my regular user/pass.
afp://[email protected]
The user home mounts immediately, but the icons of the folders in my user home (like Desktop, Documents, etc.) display a badge indicating I don't have access. However, if I then click on one of those folders, the badge disappears and the folder opens just fine. Once I close it, the badge immediately appears again.

I can access all my stuff so it's really just a GUI annoyance, but still, I wonder what is causing this weird behavior.

Any ideas?

I have a 10.5 and 10.4 machine at work. I'll check this tomorrow.

I'm not seeing this issue. Folders look "normal" and I have full access.

It's really weird.

I have full access too, but these little 'do not enter' badges are on all the folders as if I didn't have read permission.

In column view mode I see that as soon as I click on the folder the badge disappears and its content is displayed.

My default view was column view when I connected.

I did switch views and check all of them, and everything was normal.

Have you repaired permission on both machines?

Absolutely.

I have checked the items in the remote user home. They have correct 700 permissions (just as on Leopard) so as the owner I should have no trouble. And indeed, I am not having trouble accessing things. But the GUI seems to think there's some kind of permissions problem.

I'm starting to wonder if this could have anything to do with UIDs...

The recent 10.5.8 update didn't change anything about the problem. I wonder if this is an issue on the Tiger side...
