So a friend of mine has been quite ill. About 25 years ago she received a liver transplant, which 25 years ago was quite deal. Also, 25 years ago these transplants didn't last as well as they do now, and for the last year she's been on effectively borrowed time, arranging for the care of her 13 year old daughter and other fairly final stuff.
Her team wouldn't put her on the transplant list because they thought she was too ill to survive the operation. However Kings Hospital decided she could and yesterday after a few months wait during which we thought she wouldn't last, a liver came up.
So currently after a 15 hour operation, she's trying to breathe unaided and still being kept under. But lets hope this all improves.
I am told the getting well process is quite hard, and she should know as this is her second time around. Apparently this is a UK first!
Anyways., modern medicine, and doctors. It's a wonderful thing.
