That sounds cool. I don't work in that industry, so no trip for me.

In an odd twist of irony, this year I've got the dates free but no cash to go.

I might go. I get tickets every year for free, but I haven't been able to make it so far. I'll be in Oregon two days before, so I may make my way down there.

I wish I could go. I went to the New York one back in 2001. Just remember to get there very early if you want to get into the keynote speech. In NY I got there at 5AM and there were already people in line.

Does going to macworld mean going to see the keynote? Or is that a separate ticket/package you have to buy to see it.

According to the website...

The keynote is open to Platinum and Super Pass, MacIT, Users, Power Tools, Market Symposiums and Hands-On MacLabs attendees ONLY. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis except for Platinum and Super Pass attendees who have access to priority Keynote and Feature Presentation seating.

I'm there, but only for the exhibits. Really bums me cuz I can't afford the workshops, and I really wanna visit some. I wanted to get my hands on as many OS X Server and OpenDirectory/LDAP workshops as possible. Books are OK, but I do better if someone is demoing it and I can ask questions.

I wonder if they'd give out media passes to someone from a regional newspaper group…

now that they let in all the expensive pass people first, i'll be lucky to get in at all. but i'll give it a shot. and if a macnner sees me in line, i'll try my best to convince the surrounding people in line that you're my long lost brother or something. that way they won't lynch me. probably.

Macworld is a great experience (even if you can't go to the keynote). Congrats chipchen.

And it is not open to Exhibitors. We are exhibiting again this year, but it seems the thousands of dollars we paid is not good enough to get even one keynote ticket.

That's a guess or you know that by experience?

I'm flying in Monday... perhaps I'll sleep early that night.

I went to Macworld 2003 and was in the Keynote audience. I'd get there ASAP to ensure good seating, especially if they're giving preferential seating now. When we were lined up they took a while to open the doors, and when they finally did the line broke as people started running to get in.

On the show floor I was browsing MacNN and got told by a Macworld employee that I should be at Macworld.com instead.

From experience. This will be my 4th Keynote. There will be 2 lines, one for preferred seating, one for non preferred seating. Even if you're first in line for non preferred seating, don't expect to be in the front half of the audience. That's reserved for the press, Apple VIP guests, select Apple employees (those who worked on whatever product Steve reveals), and finally those who bought the preferred seating pass. I would also suggest that you pick up your badge holder the day before the keynote. Unless you're with someone that can save your spot in line.

It appears that the keynote will take place in the Moscone West hall for the first time. All previous keynotes took place in the South hall. I wonder how much more seating the West hall has compared to the South hall.

From the macworldexpo.com:

"WEST will be where you register and pick up your badge (if you are an attendee), where the keynote is, where many conference sessions will be, and will host a full exhibit hall of booths and attendee attractions for you to visit."

Just walk over to the Apple booth. They usually have the keynote streamed on their 2 big screens.
