Pathetic. After upgrading to Beta 2 (v74) I come across several pages a day that don't load properly. This latest build of Safari, at least to this user, seems to have taken a giant leap backward.

For the first time in months I've had to run IE to do the things I've grown accustomed to doing in Safari. I thought that tabbed browsing was pretty cool (with a few exceptions), but it's not much use if the pages you want to load come up blank

Also for the first time I've put the bug button back, because I've had to use it so much

Come on Apple, you can do better than this!

My advice to those that have yet to upgrade to v74 - don't bother.

Footnote: I had to type in the smileys codes because clicking on them (in the instant smilies window) no longer inserts the code!

could you possibly show us some of these sites that do not render properly? there may be something wrong with the authors code, and not the browser...

thanks

sher, blame the developer.

web developer's fault browser no worky.

No, if browser worked right to start with then web developer wouldn't have to make hacks and kludges.

web developer should have magic wand to make all code work everywhere even though every browser supports **** differently.

no browsers should all work perfectly the same like across board.

no, chicken.

no, egg.

CHICKEN.

EGG.

CHICKEN.CHICKEN.CHICKEN.CHICKEN!!

EGG.EGG.EGG.EGG.EGG.EGG.EGG.EGG.!!

It's a goddamn beta! Calm the fĆ¼ck down and get v80 or wait until 1.0 (which may just be v80).

Well, if web developers adhere to the standards, the browser developers haven't got a leg to stand on. Very, very few sites adhere to the standards. Standards are a good thing.

Windows IE is the de facto standard.

If my site works for Windows IE, it works well enough for 90% of the world. I'm just the guy who's telling you the way it is.

Ah, the benefits of being on the other side of the world - you come back to the office and everyone's had a discussion without you

My main gripe, like I said originally, is that sites that used to work now don't - since I upgraded to v74. I dunno where to get v80 or whatever.

Given, most of the sites I visit are not large, commercial sites but ones that serve relatively small communities, so maybe there are some coding problems

[2c.]

So what's the answer? Is M$ (ever faithful scapegoat) to blame? Partly, yes. But I think web developers are responsible for letting the situation get to where it is. It would seem that there *is* a set of standards, but web developers, hallowed be thy name, have decided that IE *is* the standard and the rest aren't worth worrying about.

Frankly I don't think the chicken:egg scenario fits here. If all sites adhered to the common set of standards, browser companies would be forced to do the same - and I wouldn't be whingeing about Safari.

[/2c.]

That doesn't mean that can't or shouldn't be changed. It also doesn't mean Windows IE isn't a piece of crap.

I hope it's not, too, especially if this isn't fixed...

I don't know what sites you go to -- you don't list a single one -- but Safari has worked great for me.

Only occasionally does a web site not work, and when it doesn't, I report it to Apple, and use Camino instead.

Your panic seems way overblown.

The International Herald Tribune's css doesn't work with recent versions of Safari. I've been told that internal builds have fixed this bug. But that was on Slashdot so who knows if that is trustworthy.

http://www.iht.com/articles/99775.html

There are a few other pages that don't load properly. Lots of the Shockwave game pages don't run properly, although that is more Macromedia's fault than Apple's.

My big problem with the last "official" release of Safari is that it is far more unstable than previous versions. In prior versions I never had it hang or crash. This version gives me the spinning color of death at least once a day and the whole program crashes every few days.

But I expect that's a known bug that will be fixed in the next version.

yet it is true. dave hyatt, a safari developer, has said that internal build have fixed this. i think it was a float problem. this is evident of v.80 (leaked internal build) which renders the site correctly as someone else said.

Ermmm, no it doesn't.
Look closely. It appears to load fine, but you get the same column repeated 3 times. Yes, this is with Safari v80.
Mozilla renders the page correctly.
