i got an old iMac from some friends and i'd like to figure out a problem. i don't really know that much about apples. anyhow, whenever i try to run programs like iChat or p2p, i get a message that says 'The application _____ has unexpectedly quit.' does anyone know how i can fix this. thanks.

Check the sys reqs on the apps that don't run: you may have too little RAM, or too old a version of OS X.

Plus click on the apple in the corner then click about this Mac so we know the Proc speed and how much ram you have.

I seriously doubt you have enough of a computer there to run anything on OSX . . but that's just my 2cts

I have a iMac G3 350Mhz w/ 192 Mb ram and it runs os 10.3 and will handle iChat and P2P.
It's not like he asking if he can run CS2 or anything.

OS X will run as fast as anything else on that computer.

I'm recommending you repair permissions, something is wrong, 10.2.8 will have no problem running apps like that.

If all else fails, reinstall, w/ older machines like that you'll probably notice a decent speed boost just getting rid of stuff, especially if it's tunning its original install.
