I'm hoping someone in this thread can help me. My Powerbook was stolen in a move a week ago today. I cannot for the life of me find the serial number to hand over to police.

It was purchased new from an Apple store, and it went in for repairs under Applecare about a year ago as well. Apple's 1-800# says that they can't do a lookup under my name/phone number, and I cannot seem to locate any of the paperwork. I think I tossed most of it since Applecare expired last August. Am I boned, or is there something I haven't remembered?

Much appreciated.

Perhaps old emails confirming shipment or service?

It was purchased from a physical Apple store four years ago. Not online. No e-mails confirming service because it was taken to a physical store for service as well. That was one of the first things I checked.

I guess I am screwed. Oh well. A miniscule chance of getting it back anyway.

What I can't believe is that Apple doesn't keep track of serial numbers and has absolutely no way to look them up. I registered the Powerbook Applecare online, but I suppose they just delete them from the system once they're completed.

The Apple Store should have maintenance records on your computer. They had records on my son's iPod for heaven's sake. Go to the Apple Store and explain when you had the machine in last for service, then why you need the serial number. They should be able to pull it.
